If anyone will be in Carmel, California area before January 9, 2016 be sure to stop in to the Center for Photographic Art and see Scott's image "Under the Clouds" there on display. And prominently displayed it is, greeting visitors as they enter!

Scott McRae's "Under the Clouds" on the left
If you can't get there we have the documentary proof above, but the best thing would be to attend Forum meetings regularly and see great work like Scott's before it even appears on public.

Donate Now to the Durham Art Guild Creative Mentorship Program!

The Durham Art Guild is now accepting donations for the 2016 Creative Mentorship Program.
The Creative Mentorship Program empowers students to discover and develop their creative voices and artistic skills through 20 weeks of dedicated work with a professional artist at Golden Belt Artist Studios, involvement with the local arts community through monthly field trips and workshops, and a month-long exhibition in Golden Belt's Room 100 Gallery.

Our own Jim Lee, back row, second from right.

Through this innovative program, students and mentors work together to discover their passions and strengths. They learn to problem solve and think creatively. They share their talents and gifts with the broader community. They have the capacity to broadly envision their future and build a strong network that will support them in achieving their goals. Our own Jim Lee (in the picture above) is a very active member of the mentor group and often describes it as some of the most fulfilling work he does.

The program is a collaborative partnership between Student U and the Durham Art Guild that started in 2013. If you have additional questions about the Creative Mentorship Program or if you would like to support the program in other ways, please contact the Executive Director at
gallerydirector@durhamartguild.org.
As artists that live and work in the Triangle this program is a great way to give back to the community that supports us. To learn more, go to the DAG website here.

A Device Professional Photographers Wish Every Amateur Had To Have

At last! A photographic accessory that every amateur ought to be required to have. Well, at least from a professional point of view...

Presenting the Camera Restrica! Yes, a camera that will prevent you from taking a photograph. The camera houses your cell phone with an app that detects how many images have been made of the subject, and if it detects too many, you can't take the picture!

Sorry! We've reached our quota.

Imagine arriving at a destination to photograph with no teaming masses of phoneographers in the way! Ah, perchance to dream...

Check out the Camera Restricta website and read how the idea for the camera came about and the reasons behind it. And then, keep dreaming...

Keeping Up With Forum Member John Horwitz

Anyone who knows John, will know that keeping up with him isn't easy! Few of us can match his wide-ranging intellect and boundless spirit. In case anyone may not know, Johns life's work has been acquired by Perdue University for their permanent collection. It will soon be housed in a brand new 117,000 sq. ft. state-of-the art facility.

6 Days on the road and I'm going to see my baby tonight
(c) John Horwitz

This is a fantastic honor for an absolutely gifted photographer. Those of us who have had the pleasure of John's association and discussing his work know that it is truly deserved.

"So great to receive your latest lifework incarnation (or re-incarnation). I want to let you know that we of course have plans for the fabulous collection of your work... Yours is the only photo collection I have received so far; although I may receive others, there's no way they can match your sheer creativity and success in translating that creative force into such intimate works."
- Judy Jacobi, Chancellor, Perdue University

Congratulations to John for this fantastic accomplishment!
